Joey Aguilar nominated for Manning Award QB of the Week

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — New Tennessee quarterback Joey Aguilar’s career in orange got off to a winning start on Saturday and he may take home Manning Award Quarterback of the Week honors as a result.

Aguilar was one of eight quarterbacks recognized as Stars of the Week by The Manning Award after leading the Volunteers to a 45-26 win over Syracuse in the Aflac Kickoff Game. Fans can now cast their votes for the weekend’s top performance on allstatesugarbowl.org.

The top vote-getter will be announced as the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week. Created in 2004, The Manning Award is presented annually to college football’s top quarterback and honors the collegiate accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning.

In his Volunteer debut, Aguilar completed 16 of 28 passes for 247 yards and three touchdowns. His 73-yard touchdown to Braylon Staley in the second quarter was the longest pass play in the SEC. Aguilar also rushed for 34 yards…
