Man convicted in 1990 murder of man outside Knoxville store denied parole again

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The man convicted in the fatal 1990 shooting of a Knoxville store worker has been denied parole for a second time.

Jimmy Ray Cureton was denied parole following a case review hearing on August. 28. A spokesperson for the Tennessee Board of Parole said the decision was made due to the seriousness of the offense.

He is currently serving a life sentence for the murder of Bill Frye. In 1990, Frye was working at the Corner Market & Deli on Maryville Pike when he refused to sell cigarettes to a few teenagers. Hours later, Cureton returned and fatally shot Frye outside the store.
