10 is 10-4: new BCFPD station officially opens, dedicated to founding chief

Blount County’s newest fire station is officially open to the public. On Friday, Blount County Fire Protection District officials invited a small group including Blount County Fire Commissioners, local and state legislators, and local chapter members of the not-for-profit Woodmen Life private insurance company to christen the new Station 10 located at 3402 Montvale Road.

As part of their opening celebration, McClanahan, on behalf of the BCFPD, presented dedication plaques for the new station honoring the utility district’s founding Chief William Leon “Jack” Huffstetler, who is credited with turning the BCFPD from a privately-owned subscription fire department into the chartered, nonprofit public utility district residents know today.

In homage and remembrance of Huffstetler’s unwavering dedication to protecting the lives and properties of Blount County residents, BCFPD officials had the new station numbered 10 after the founding chief’s radio unit number…
