A Bearden bar brawl on New Year’s Day that ended with three people stabbed has led to a conviction for one Shawn Edward Hatcher, 50. As reported by the Office of District Attorney Charme Allen, a jury recently found Hatcher guilty of two counts of Aggravated Assault, one count of Assault, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. Sentencing has been scheduled for October 24 by Judge Emily Abbott.
During the two-day trial, Assistant District Attorneys Randall Kilby and Willie Lane presented the case to the jury, explaining that Knoxville Police Department Officer Jake Bercaw responded to a 911 call about an incident at the Brickyard Bar and Grill. It was there that Hatcher, after being rebuffed by a woman he was hitting on, lashed out. According to information released by the DA’s office, when the woman’s friend told Hatcher to leave her alone, Hatcher punched and stabbed the female victim while she was departing with her friends. The altercation escalated when two men from the group stepped in and were also attacked by Hatcher.
The aftermath of the violence found the victims seeking treatment at the University of Tennessee Medical Center, while Hatcher was arrested near the scene shortly after the incident. “At sentencing, my office will ask the Judge to send this repeat offender back to prison,” DA Allen stated, highlighting Hatcher’s record of prior felonies that include Attempted Especially Aggravated Kidnapping, Aggravated Burglary, and Possession of Contraband in a Penal Facility…
