A Knoxville man accused of stabbing his mother and a cat to death appeared in Judge Tammy M. Harrington’s court Thursday morning.
Zachary Justin Hayes, 27, was arrested Sept. 9, 2023, after deputies responded to a welfare check at his mother’s house on Samples Road in Louisville on Sept. 8, 2023. There, they found the body of Kimberly Hayes, 63, with the body of a deceased cat in close proximity.
According to previous reporting by The Daily Times, deputies reported finding pry marks on a storm door, indicating that someone had attempted to force entry into the residence. Reportedly, neighbors told deputies that they had seen Zachary’s car parked outside the residence…
