KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The City of Knoxville has officially regained ownership of the site that previously housed the Knoxville Police Department headquarters after plans to build a science museum did not materialize.
Knoxville Mayor Indya Kincannon said during Tuesday’s city council meeting that the land on Howard Baker Jr. Avenue was returned to the city this week. The city signed a development agreement with the Clayton Family Foundation in 2019 that stated the land would revert back to the city if plans to build a science museum on the site were not completed.
“I look forward to engaging with the community in the months ahead and start the process of reimagining how best to use this property moving forward,” Kincannon said Tuesday…
