Knoxville, TN – A new phone scam is circulating across Tennessee, with callers falsely claiming that a loved one has been jailed and can be released if money is sent for an ankle monitor.
According to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, the scammers are pressuring residents to send payments through apps such as Venmo, PayPal, or similar online platforms. Officials stressed that this is a fraudulent scheme and that law enforcement agencies will never request money through these methods for bail, ankle monitors, or any other legal process.
Authorities urge anyone who receives such a call to hang up immediately, contact the family member in question directly, and report the scam to law enforcement…
