KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Rural Metro Fire crews responded to a fire involving a tractor-trailer and a vehicle that fell from a transport truck in the early morning hours of Thursday.
According to Rural Metro, crews responded to the fire on I-40 West near the truck scales, which are east of where the interstate crosses Everett Road. It is unclear exactly when the fire began, but a viewer shared a video of the fire with 6 News around 12:30 a.m.

When crews arrived, they found a tractor trailer and passenger vehicle engulfed in flames. Rural Metro noted that there was not a driver in the passenger vehicle because it had fallen from a truck that was transporting it.
Crews extinguished the fire, but the cleanup after was extensive. A spokesperson for the Tennessee Department of Transportation shared around 3 a.m. that all lanes of I-40 West were closed, followed by an update at 5:45 a.m. that all lanes had reopened.
