Maryville food pantry sees more people amid SNAP changes, rising food costs

MARYVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Work requirements for those eligible for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program are changing in Tennessee.

According to the Department of Human Services, adults 18 to 64 who don’t have a disability and don’t live with children under 14 may only get SNAP benefits for three months in three years unless they work, volunteer, or train at least 20 hours a week.

This change is coming from the One Big Beautiful Bill, which President Trump signed in July. This bill also cut billions of dollars from the program.
