Suspect arrested in connection with January 2025 murder of 29-year-old Maryville man

MARYVILLE, Tenn. — The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of a suspect following an eight-month-long investigation into the shooting death of a Maryville man.

MCSO said they issued a warrant for the arrest of Gerald Poff, 50, for first-degree murder in connection with the death of Dennis Jenkins Jr., 29. Sheriff Tommy Jones said Poff was on his way to the Monroe County Jail to be booked on the charge Monday morning.

MCSO said deputies were called to 2040 Highway 72 East in Maryville on Jan. 30 at 6:55 p.m. for a report of a gunshot wound. When deputies arrived, they found Jenkins inside the home on the floor with a gunshot wound to the head. Jenkins was flown to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival…
