Maryville 9-year-old’s journey with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy sparks hope amid challenges

MARYVILLE, Tenn. — Nine-year-old Will Leko loves Pokémon, swimming and video games. His favorite titles include Yoshi’s Crafted World and Super Mario Odyssey.

But Will is also living with something most children his age don’t face. When he was two years old, he was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. It is a rare genetic disorder that causes progressive muscle weakness and eventually affects the heart and lungs.
