East Tennessee veterans offered free legal advice on Oct. 8

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — On the second Wednesday of this month, veterans in East Tennessee can get free legal advice from volunteer attorneys.

Next week, on Wednesday, Oct. 8, from noon to 2 p.m., the Knox County Public Defender’s Community Law Office on Liberty Street will be hosting a clinic, offering veterans advice on just about anything.

Attorneys can advise on matters related to:

  • Landlord/tenant
  • Veterans Benefits
  • Bankruptcy
  • Criminal defense
  • Consumer protection
  • Contract disputes
  • Estate Planning
  • Child support
  • Personal injury
  • General Legal Issue

“It is designed to enable veterans to come in and actually get access, face-to-face with a volunteer attorney who can help them deal with whatever legal situations they are facing at that time,” Tasha Blakney, executive director of the Knoxville Bar Association, said. “It’s important for folks to understand that the issues that the veterans come in are not necessarily service-connected.”…
