Ex-officer who pleaded guilty to federal charges in Tyre Nichols case to be released

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Emmitt Martin, one of the officers who pleaded guilty to federal charges in the death of Tyre Nichols, is going to be released to a family member’s custody to an inpatient facility in Knoxville until sentencing.

In court on Tuesday, the defense asked to release and reinstate Martin’s bond.

They said that he had a mental evaluation and is suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
