KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Imagine you are away for weeks and the power to your home is cut off, but you don’t know about it for more than two weeks. Then, when you return, you are confronted with a nightmare.
Rebecca Bryant said she was out of the country when the power to her home was accidentally cut on July 22. Fiber optic cables were in the process of being installed and a neighbor told the contractor that Bryant was not at home when the power was cut. Apparently, someone from the Lenoir City Utilities Board said, ‘don’t worry, we’ll get in touch with her.’ But Bryant says they didn’t.
“They drilled through the electric line on July 22,” said Bryant.

The outage surged through Bryant’s breaker panel, inside her garage. You can see where it burned. No one reset it for weeks because she was not home.
“Well, it cut the power to my house. I had a neighbor come over and offer to get in touch with me. I am out of town taking care of a loved one and her children,” said Bryant.
Bryant keeps gardening tools inside her garage. But while she was away, her gardener couldn’t get into the garage using the keypad, so he called her in early August…
