KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A man has been charged, accused of assaulting an off-duty Knoxville Police Department officer downtown Knoxville early Thursday morning. Knoxville Police said the officer was not injured.
According to the department, an internal administrative investigation has been opened into the incident that happened just after 1 a.m. on Thursday.

Around that time, an officer who was conducting a walking patrol in the area of Krutch Park witnessed a verbal and physical altercation happening in the 500 block of Gay Street.
One man was detained and charged with assault, a class B misdemeanor. The victim, who was an off-duty Knoxville Police officer, did not require medical treatment.
