UT launches 3-year civics program for educators funded by $2 million federal grant

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — As part of a $153 million federal investment in American history and civics education, the University of Tennessee Institute of American Civics received over $2 million from the U.S. Department of Education’s American History and Civics Seminars Program.

The funds will be used to launch a three-year civics program for educators that will expand the IAC’s outreach and promote well-rounded knowledge and appreciation of the principles and institutions in the US system for teachers.

The program, called “Renewing the Republic: Strengthening Civics Instruction for Tennessee Teachers,” aims to reach over 1,000 educators annually through clinics and seminars that seek to “equip Tennessee’s K-12 educators with the tools, knowledge and confidence to teach America’s founding principles and constitutional heritage,” according to IAC executive director Josh Dunn…
