Blount County family gets house through Habitat for Humanity

ALCOA, Tenn. (WATE) — Habitat for Humanity held the dedication ceremony for a local family’s new home in Alcoa Wednesday morning.

Darius and Catherine Boring and their three children had been living in an apartment with mold issues, Habitat for Humanity explained. Through the program, they learned about money and debt management and helped build their new home from the ground up. It was a lot of work, and Darius explained they had to keep their eye on the prize: a better life for their family.

“It’s just a big relief, really and a real blessing,” he said.

His daughter’s favorite part is having a yard where she can play with her friends. The family is also excited to live in the same neighborhood as Darius’s sister.

“The journey with Habitat has really been lifechanging,” he said.
