KNOXVILLE, Tenn — The Pacific Ocean expedition to search for the remains of aviatrix Amelia Earhart’s airplane has been postponed from next month until 2026, according to an announcement this week by Purdue University.
According to a release Monday, the project team is still awaiting permitting clearance to proceed from the Kiribati government.
Purdue University, Purdue Research Foundation and the Archaeological Legacy Institute, or ALI, are taking part in the grand plan to travel to the remote Pacific island of Nikumaroro, where scholars believe the American aviation pioneer may have put down her Lockheed Electra aircraft during her ambitious campaign to fly around the globe…
