Knoxville families worry as SNAP benefits set to dry up in a few days

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — In a few days, thousands of people leaning on the government for help buying food are set to lose SNAP benefits. The impact of the federal shutdown hits cupboards and refrigerators across East Tennessee.

Sherry Lands receives Social Security every month. She said she doesn’t qualify for SNAP assistance, but her daughter and son-in-law do.

“She’s a stay-at-home mom. The dad, which is my son-in-law, works. He does the best that he can and without the benefits to help out with food and stuff, and I mean she takes every penny of it and spends it on them kids. She’s more worried about her kids than she is herself,” Lands said…
