Around 10:50 a.m. Tuesday, Major Crimes Unit detectives with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office responded to Gibbs High School after they received a report of threats being made. A General Sessions docket explains that the detectives spoke with two witnesses, who told them that they were in class with Smith earlier that morning when he started making threats of harming himself and that he would “shoot everyone in the school.”
The record stated that the detectives viewed Smith’s snapchat, which showed him in what appeared to be a school saying similar statements to what the witnesses reported. When the detectives spoke with Smith, the docket stated that Smith admitted to making threats, including a bomb threat, toward the school.
