Runway rehab is the biggest chunk of $33M approved for McGhee Tyson Airport

Leaders of McGhee Tyson Airport − the United States’ fastest growing airport last year − have opted to invest more than $33 million in a raft of projects that could cost $700 million over the next decade, as the Knoxville airport looks to transform its terminal, airfield and parking options for passengers.

The Knoxville airport is in growth mode, and some of the changes are already visible.

The side of the escalators that takes passengers downstairs will likely stay out of commission until the first week of December, though airport staffers estimate the escalator that moves travelers upstairs will be useable again by early November. Additionally, a towering crane deployed for the most expensive project in the airport’s history – its six-story parking garage – has loomed over McGhee Tyson for weeks…
