KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The government shutdown has hit a record 39 days, and full funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as SNAP, is not there.
An estimated 700,000 Tennesseans rely on SNAP, and about 35,000 in Knox County alone. Nourish Knoxville is stepping in to stretch some of these dollars out even further.
“We accept SNAP at all of our farmers markets,” Becky Hooper, Nourish Knoxville’s Programs Director, said.” “In addition to accepting SNAP, we also double SNAP.”…
