FIRST ALERT: Arctic blast takes aim bringing bitter cold temperatures and mountain snow to East Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – Clouds mix with sun for the start of the day before turning mostly cloudy this afternoon.

SUNDAY: A cold front is moving through East Tennessee this morning. High temperatures will be in the middle to upper 50s earlier on in the day. As the cold air settles in, temperatures will quickly drop into the middle 40s by the evening. Waking up Monday morning, temperatures will be in the low 30s.

Most areas will remain dry through Sunday afternoon. By Sunday evening into late Sunday night, snow chances will enter in the forecast. The best chance for any accumulating snow will be in the mountains.

A Winter Storm Warning in effect for the mountains of Cocke, Sevier and Blount County from Sunday evening until Tuesday morning. The mountains could see anywhere between 2″-4″ whereas higher peaks above 5,000ft could see up to 8 inches by Tuesday morning…
