African American Civil War soldier honored with trail head in Oak Ridge

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (WVLT) – An Oak Ridge man who was born into slavery and fought in the Civil War was recognized on Wednesday.

Elijah Wood, an enslaved soldier who fought for the union during war time, spent his life in Oak Ridge. He served in the first United States colored heavy artillery regiment, formed here in Knoxville.
