Greeneville woman pleads guilty to role in monkey torture video conspiracy

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A Greeneville woman has pleaded guilty to two federal charges charges in connection to her involvement in online groups that were dedicated to creating and distributing videos showing acts of extreme violence and sexual abuse against monkeys.

The U.S. Department of Justice announced on Thursday that Katrina Favret pleaded guilty to conspiring to create and distribute so-called “animal crush videos,” as well as a second count addressing a specific video she solicited.

Court documents state that Favret conspired with other individuals to create and distribute videos depicting acts of sadistic violence against baby and adult monkeys. The conspiracy involved encrypted chat applications that sent money to individuals in Indonesia who were willing to commit requested acts of torture on camera, the DOJ said.

A DOJ release said the videos included depictions of monkeys having digits and limbs severed as well as sexual abuse against the monkeys. Previously, the DOJ shared that the videos reportedly showed acts of “sadistic violence” against juvenile and adult monkeys…
