$40,000 donation supports Knox County Sheriff’s Office employees facing hardships

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Knoxville Wholesale Furniture donated money to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office’s Officer Assistance Program.

The $40,000 will help sheriff’s office employees who are facing hardships. The program, which is under the direction of Knox County Sheriff Tom Spangler, called the contribution a blessing.

“Those employees of the sheriff’s office, whenever they have something happen to them, whether it’s on duty or something happens with their family or whatever, that assistance is there and this makes it possible,” said Spangler. “We certainly appreciate it more than we can ever say.”

“They put their life on the line every single day. So we just wanted to show our appreciation and just give them the praise that they deserve. And of course, you know, a lot of times they’re injured. So this money’s actually going for people that have had some accidents on the job, and sometimes they need extra money to make it through till they’re healthy because we want to take care of our officers,” said Tim Harris with Knoxville Wholesale Furniture.

The program was previously known as the Officer Down Program. It was revised under Spangler to assist all types of hardships, not just the loss of life in the line of duty.
