Beck Center begins renovation of historic Delaney House in North Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Beck Cultural Exchange Center has begun renovations on the historic Delaney House in North Knoxville, preserving what leaders say is a vital piece of Black history in the city.

The Delaney House is the only remaining ancestral home of artists Beauford and Joseph Delaney and their family. According to the center, the structure needs extensive work, but its preservation means the Delaneys’ legacy can remain rooted in the community.

In addition to restoring the home, the Beck Center plans to add mosaics, art pieces and statues to the courtyard. The goal is to help visitors experience and understand the Delaney family’s story without needing to enter the house itself…
