KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — As the execution date approaches for the only Chattanooga resident on Tennessee’s death row, a Knoxville judge now wants to take a closer look at records the Tennessee Department of Correction has refused to release.
Harold Wayne Nichols, who’s been on death row since 1988 for murdering a woman inside her Brainerd apartment, is set to be executed on December 11th.
Knox County Chancellor John Weaver heard arguments on Wednesday from Nichols’ attorneys and from lawyers representing the Department of Correction.
