New Study Shows High Satisfaction With TennCare and Fewer Uninsured in Tennessee

A recent study by the Boyd Center for Business and Economic Research at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, reports high satisfaction among TennCare enrollees in 2025. The annual survey was conducted between May and July 2025. It included about 5,000 households and examined health coverage and satisfaction in Tennessee. The results show that 97% of TennCare members are somewhat or very satisfied with the program. This is the highest satisfaction rate since the survey began in 1993. Satisfaction with TennCare for children is also high, with 97% of respondents reporting positive views about their children’s care.

TennCare director Stephen Smith said the agency’s efforts to provide quality, cost-effective care contributed to these results. The study was co-authored by Professor Matt Harris and Senior Research Associate Emily Pratt. It also looked at health coverage in the state. The uninsured rate among children in Tennessee is estimated between 2.9% and 5%, or about 45,902 to 78,755 children. For adults, the uninsured rate is now between 8.1% and 10.2%, which is lower than last year.

The combined uninsured rate for adults and children is now between 7% and 9.1%. This is a decrease from last year’s range of 7.6% to 9.6%. Professor Harris noted that these changes reflect improvements in insurance coverage and satisfaction, especially for vulnerable groups…
