‘It’s an extension of our family’ Mobile Meals volunteers deliver Thanksgiving meals to homebound seniors

KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) —The Mobile Meals kitchen run by the Knoxville–Knox County Community Action Committee was buzzing this morning as volunteers packed up hundreds of Thanksgiving meals for homebound seniors. 6 News rode along with two of those volunteers to see firsthand how a hot holiday meal, and a quick visit can make an impact.

Over 150 volunteers spent Thanksgiving delivering hot meals to 700 homebound seniors, making sure no one in the Knoxville community is forgotten or hungry.

The seniors not only received a nutritious thanksgiving meal, but thanks to local kids, each one also got a gift bag with a handmade craft to brighten their day.

“Our need is growing. The senior population is growing across Knox County. And so, we’re working hard to grow with that. So, we have all kinds of volunteers that are joining us this year. We’ve gotten a lot of support from the community. So, I’m really, I’m, I’m hopeful that we’ll be able to grow as the demand grows for meals and for safety checks,” explained Sara Keel, Program Manager for CAC Mobile Meals…
