KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Knox Area Rescue Ministries opened its doors Thursday for its 39th annual Thanksgiving Day celebration, serving roughly 300 meals across two lunch seatings to people in need of a warm holiday meal and community.
Staff and volunteers said Thanksgiving can be especially difficult for guests who don’t know where their next meal will come from, so they worked to make the day feel like family.
“This gives us a chance to come and spend the day, have lunch with the people that we serve already. We serve here every Monday. And so they’re like friends to us now. So it’s nice for us to have Thanksgiving lunch with them. And we feel so blessed to be in this area with the wonderful people of East Tennessee,” volunteers Melanie and James Joubert said…
