Ready for Christmas? Here’s how to send your letter to Santa

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — It’s finally time to get in the Christmas spirit, and for many children across the world, that means writing a letter to Santa. Here’s how you can write and send your own letter to Santa.

How to write the letter

Every good letter starts by addressing the person the letter is to. Usually, that looks like “Dear Santa,” on the first line of the letter. It is similar to saying “hello” to someone when you meet them.

On the next line, start by telling Santa a little bit about you. Although it is common knowledge that Santa keeps a “naughty” and “nice” list, it’s friendly to discuss how your year has been or what you enjoy doing for the holidays, as opposed to just sending a wish list.

Then, share a few things you hope to get for Christmas this year. While some people might write Santa long lists, it would be very difficult for Santa to fit that many presents in his sleigh when he has to deliver all those presents on Christmas Eve. Instead, picking out two or three things helps Santa have plenty of space to deliver presents to everyone.

To end the letter, most people use a line that says something like “Merry Christmas!” or “Stay warm at the North Pole!” Think of it similarly to how you say “goodbye” to someone when you finish a conversation with them or leave. Then, one line below that, sign your name. The letter might look something like this:

If you’re new to writing letters, ask an adult for help. Some people also enjoy adding decorations or drawings to their letters to Santa.

Address the envelope

After putting the letter to Santa in an envelope and sealing it, the envelope needs to be addressed so the mail carriers know where it needs to go. You will need to write your return address in the upper left corner of the envelope. Include your full name, mailing address and apartment number if you live in an apartment. If you do not know your address, ask a trusted adult for help.
