KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A history project launched with one question grew beyond any expectations for a group of students and their instructor at Central High School in Knoxville.
“Let’s find out something about what they did in World War Two,” Russell Bazemore, retired Navy Captain and instructor of the Navy JROTC unit at Central High School, said.
A couple of banners loaded with stars hang at the back of the JRTOC classroom at Central. Each star holds a name, and each one of those young men died during World War II.
“It’s kind of crazy to me to know that these people, like, were just so young when they went through this, and they still had so much life to live,” Isabella Glass, 15, who has dreams of becoming a military aviator, said…
