Hundreds of foster families receive Christmas gifts at Shoreline Church giveaway

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Hundreds of foster, adoptive and kinship families filled Shoreline Church on Saturday for a Christmas gift giveaway aimed at easing the burden many caregivers face during the holidays.

Fostering Hope Tennessee and Compassion Closet partnered to host what organizers say was their largest event to date, offering more than 300 gifts along with crafts, games, and an opportunity for parents to “shop” for their children at no cost.

“We’re having our biggest foster care party of the decade, really. We’ve been around since 2013, and we’ve been hosting an annual foster care party every year. We have over 500 people here today and 300 kids that we’re serving, and we’re just really excited to be able to provide toys for these kids,” said Chanté Hensley, executive director of Fostering Hope TN.

Beyond Christmas toys, both organizations work year-round to support foster families by providing clothing, beds, school supplies and essential items, often on short notice when a child enters care…
