University of Tennessee Knoxville assists MCSO in remains excavation off of Broyles Ave.

PADUCAH — A Forensic Anthropology Team from the University of Tennessee Knoxville began excavation Monday, assisting the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office’s investigation into human remains found off of Broyles Ave.

The team began working early, with MCSO monitoring the property to keep the site clear of visitors.

“This is probably day one of it, so we’ve got to do a lot of investigation after this,” McCracken County Chief Deputy Ryan Willcutt said. “DNA testing and an autopsy, and stuff like that. So that’s where we’re at with things right now, but there’s no further update other than that. We don’t, we don’t have any identity.”

The leader of the University of Tennessee Knoxville’s forensic anthropology team at the site, Mary Davis, said that the sheriff’s office had requested their assistance recovering bones last week.

“Anytime we’re recovering human remains, we are documenting in a variety of methods, including photographs, hand drawn maps and GPS maps,” Davis said. “Then exposing those remains so that we make sure we have recovered the entire individual, and then we are releasing those remains to the coroner.”…
