‘Empowering veteran employees’ University of Tennessee named Veteran Ready Business

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The Tennessee Department of Veteran Services named the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, a 2026 Veteran Ready Business, UT announced.

This award is for organizations in the state that do a good job of recruiting, hiring and retaining veterans, service members and their families, said UT, which received a bronze-level certification. The university has more than 230 faculty and staff who are veterans, the university said. In fall 2025, it welcomed over 1,750 student veterans and students connected to the military. More than 6,400 UT alumni have served, UT said.

“We are honored to be recognized again as a Veteran Ready Business,” said Tarah Keeler, assistant vice chancellor of human resources. “Our HR team takes immense pride in playing a pivotal role in empowering veteran employees to ensure they have the resources and opportunities to feel engaged and excel in their roles at the university.”
