KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The Knoxville City Council has approved infrastructure upgrades for the Old City neighborhood and funding to develop more low-income housing units. Tuesday also marked the final meeting for several term-limited council members.
Mayor Indya Kincannon was authorized by the council to execute a $621,633 contract with Whaley Construction for the latest in a series of public infrastructure upgrades to the western edge of the Old City. Recent improvements to the area include the relocation of overhead utility lines, tree planting, and expanded sidewalks.
East Jackson Avenue between Morgan Street and Stadium Way will be the next Old City street to be upgraded with new sidewalks, streetlights, and drainage improvements. This section of Jackson includes areas under Hall of Fame Drive and James White Parkway…
