Maryville teacher accused of stealing trading cards, placed on leave

MARYVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — An East Tennessee teacher has been placed on leave after being charged with stealing boxes of trading cards worth hundreds of dollars.

Maryville City Schools teacher James Creech was charged with theft of property under $1,000 dollars on Monday. A spokesperson for the school district said that he has been placed on leave.

According to an arrest warrant obtained by 6 News, Creech is accused of stealing multiple boxes of trading cards valued at $451.88 in total. The warrant alleges that boxes were stolen from a Target in Blount County over a two-day period from December 1-2.

“Maryville City Schools can confirm that James Creech is an employee of the district. He has been placed on leave until the situation is resolved,” the spokesperson told 6 News. “Because this is a personnel matter, this is all we are able to share at this time.”…
