UNION COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) —Attempts are underway to rescue two people from a trench in Maynardville Thursday morning, Knox Rescue Chief Brian Townsend confirmed.
A trench was being dug when it collapsed, trapping two people, said Andrew Reed, director of Emergency Medical Service in Union County. Crews are working to remove them. Reed said they have shorelining in place, referring to barriers to try to prevent the trench from collapsing more. Medical crews are working with the subjects, he added.

The scene is at 1075 Big Ridge Park Road inside Big Ridge State Park. Knox County Rescue is evaluating the scene and will attempt a rescue, Townsend said.
