Major cold blast arrives this weekend

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – A cold night ahead with lows near freezing. Winds will be variable at 5 mph.

SATURDAY: Expect some sun with highs in the upper 40s to low 50s. It will be colder for areas near the KY/TN line. Temps will start the free fall after sunset. Lows will drop in the mid 20s Saturday night in Knoxville, but teens are possible for upper east TN into southeast KY.

MOUNTAIN SNOW SATURDAY NIGHT: 1-2 inches of snow is possible in the higher elevations of the Smoky Mountains. Some flurries or snow showers are possible in the foothills with a dusting in a few spots.

FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY SUNDAY: Temperatures will fall into the low to mid 20s by afternoon behind a major Arctic cold front. Dangerously cold air takes hold Sunday night with lows in the low to mid teens and wind chill readings around 5-10 degrees. Make sure pets have a warm place to stay and protect any exposed pipes!
