Knoxville man accused of leading deputies 28-minute pursuit, hitting patrol cars

KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — A Knoxville man is facing multiple charges after he was accused of leading deputies with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office on a 28-minute-long pursuit in West Knoxville, according to court records.

General Sessions dockets report that Michael Paul Lee, 39, is facing charges including evading arrest, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, reckless driving, and drug charges stemming from the pursuit on Monday.

Narratives within the dockets state that KCSO deputies responded to the Burger King in the 1600 block of Schaeffer Road around 11:25 p.m. after a report was made of a suspicious person in the area. Employees at the restaurant told deputies the driver of a white Toyota Avalon appeared to be intoxicated and was acting strangely.

Although deputies did not see the vehicle there, during their investigation, they found the Toyota near Lovell Road at the Speedway gas station. According to the narrative, when deputies tried to stop the vehicle, it fled from officers. The deputies followed the Toyota for approximately 28 minutes, during which the narratives state the vehicle crossed the center line into oncoming traffic several times, exceeded speeds of more than 100 miles per hour and ran several stop signs and traffic lights…
