It was a crime that galvanized our community into taking action against gun violence. 15-year-old Zaevion Dobson, the innocent victim of a drive-by shooting, heroically shielded two friends from the gunfire, saving their lives.

Zaevion’s mother, Zenobia Dobson, reflected on the decade that has gone by and her continued efforts to spare other parents the heartbreak she has endured.

“Zaevion: he was my baby boy, and he was a protector,” Dobson said. “His heart, he wore his heart on his sleeve, and he would always let me know how he was feeling. He told me that he loved me and if he was angry, he’d let me know it. He didn’t waste time telling me how he truly felt.”
