As Christmas and New Year’s Day approach, city offices in Knoxville are preparing to temporarily shut their doors in observance of the upcoming holidays. An official release from the City of Knoxville details closures that will affect a variety of municipal services. According to a statement on the city’s website, all city offices, including the 311 and 211 service lines, will be closed tomorrow, and on Thursday, Dec. 25, as well as Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026.
For those looking to still report issues, the My Knoxville app for iPhone and Android will remain operational. The holiday closure will mean that scheduled garbage and recycling collections on Thursday, Dec. 25, will be deferred to the following day, with the normal routine slated to swiftly resume on Monday, Dec. 29. December 26 marks the start of a window during which residents can to easily dispose of their excess holiday trash and cardboard by placing it next to their full garbage carts for pickup.
While Goodwill donation centers in Knoxville will operate with limited staffing—one can expect attendant assistance only for half a day tomorrow—the city’s four recycling centers will keep their gates open. The city, however, advises holding on to donations until an attendant is present, as the centers will be unstaffed on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.
