SEVIER COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — The parents of an elementary school student were alarmed to find their child had a gun at home that he obtained from another student while at school earlier this month.
According to a release, Sevier County Schools officials learned that the New Center Elementary School student had the gun on the evening of December 18 after his parents discovered the firearm and reported it to the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office. The school system said the investigation by deputies determined that the student received the gun from another student while they were at school that day.

The school system said after the sheriff’s office made school officials aware of the investigation, deputies continued working to determine who the other student involved was and conducted more interviews. School administrators informed parents of New Center Elementary School students about the incident by text and email on the same evening that the gun was discovered.
