THP: Man fires at trooper during chase in Powell

POWELL, Tenn. (WATE) — The Tennessee Highway Patrol said a man fired at a trooper during a chase in Powell Sunday afternoon.

The THP stated that one of its troopers stopped a driver who was speeding on I-75 south near the Emory Road exit. According to the THP, the man fled then pulled a handgun and shot several rounds at the trooper.

The man then drove to a home on Powell Heights Road and got out of the vehicle. He was taken into custody, THP said.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office said it assisted the THP with a chase in the area Sunday afternoon. It added that the home where law enforcement took the suspect into custody was in the 7900 block of Powell Heights Road…
