KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — While many places were closed for New Year’s Day, the Love Kitchen continued a routine it has followed for decades: serving meals every Wednesday and Thursday at lunchtime, no matter the holiday.
This year, both New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day fell on those regular service days.
Mark Riggins, executive director of the Love Kitchen, said the organization stays open because hunger doesn’t take a break just because the calendar says it’s a holiday.
