Oak Ridge celebrates New Year’s Eve with Atomic Ball drop

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (WATE) – The ball dropped at AK Bissel Park in Oak Ridge as part of a New Year’s Eve celebration put on by Free Medical Clinic of Oak Ridge.

The event included live music, fireworks and the dropping of the Atomic Ball. Organizers said it would not be possible without the efforts of TCAT Harriman students and instructors both past and present.

Joseph Griffith was one of the students who helped build the Atomic Ball in 2023, which won a SkillsUSA award.

“We actually ended up winning gold in the category for state level and nationals. And it just really goes to show that when you’re helping people, people help you,” said Griffith, whose parents came to watch their son help drop the ball on New Year’s Eve…
