Tennessee children lack health insurance despite available coverage options, report says

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – Thousands of children across Tennessee are without health insurance even though coverage options are available, according to a new state report.

The 2025 State of the Child Report shows more than 6% of kids across the state didn’t have insurance in 2024.

Two-thirds of those children in 2023 were in situations where they could afford coverage, but barriers prevented families from accessing care. Those barriers include cost, busy schedules and transportation, according to the report…
