‘A loss like this affects us all.’ | UT Police Department K-9 dies after being hit by car

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – The University of Tennessee Police Department said one of its K-9 officers died after being hit by a car Saturday evening.

UTPD said K-9 Doc was playing in his handler’s backyard with a family dog when they both escaped the fenced area.

Doc’s handler, Officer Stephen Murphy, found him injured and took him to the UT Veterinary Medical Center, where he died from his injuries, UTPD said.

“A loss like this affects us all,” said UTPD Chief Sean Patterson. “Our K-9s serve alongside our officers every day and are a large part of this department and community. Doc will be remembered and greatly missed.”…
