Powell residents fear increased flooding risk from nearby development project

POWELL, Tenn. — Residents in a Powell neighborhood say flooding over the weekend left them frustrated and worried about a development nearby that they believe caused the problem.

Homes in the Cherrybrook subdivision off Clinton Highway flooded after heavy rain, with muddy water carrying silt and debris from a nearby construction site currently under development. By Monday, the water had receded, but trash and debris remained along streets and yards.

Several residents told 10News they believe a retention pond being built as part of the new development contributed to the flooding. One homeowner, Michael Burkey, who has lived in the neighborhood for nearly 50 years, said he is especially concerned about what could happen during future storms…
